Education Admission Requirements

A student planning to major in any education field is considered a pre-education major until they have been fully accepted to the education program. Students can apply for formal admission to the program when they have earned 60 hours with a 2.0 Cumulative GPA and a number of other requirements which can be found on the application below.

The Education Preparation Committee will determine whether an applicant will be admitted unconditionally, admitted provisionally, or not admitted based on established criteria. Information about these requirements will be distributed to students enrolled in ED 101, Foundations of Education. Students who transfer credit in a course evaluated as equivalent to Foundations of Education should consult with the Director of Teacher Education within their first semester of attendance to determine their status in the educator preparation program.

Once a student meets the Education program requirements, they may apply for full admission into the CMU Education program.

Educator Preparation candidates participate in selected professional education courses and student teaching experiences. Students must meet certain requirements before they will be allowed to register for ED454 and ED462. Those requirements can be found on the Student Teaching Application.

MoGEA Testing Information

Registration: Register for the MoGEA test online.

The $59 fee for the MoGEA is paid online to Pearson.

Accommodations: If you require testing accommodations, those must be made through Pearson (with the assistance of our Center for Learning and Teaching) six weeks in advance of the test date. If you require physical accommodations, please contact Sally Hackman at least 24 hours prior to the exam at 660-248-6633 or by email at shackman@centralmethodist.edu.

What to Bring:

• Government Issued Photo ID (Student ID will NOT be accepted)
• Water (Clear bottle only)

What not to Bring:

• Visitors, including relatives, children, and friends
• Calculator (An online calculator will be available to all students.)
• Any tobacco products
• Weapons of any kind

Additionally, any personal items that you bring must be stored in a designated secure area. This includes watches, wallets, and purses in addition to the following items, which are considered to be prohibited aids:

• Cell phones
• Electronic communication devices, visual or audio recording or listening devices, or any device with an on/off option, including, but not limited to, MP3 players, PDAs, pagers, computers, CDs, removable storage devices, calculator watches, clocks or watches with alarms, spellcheckers, etc.
• Handwritten or printed materials, such as dictionaries, notebooks, scratch paper, textbooks, etc.
• Packages and bags of any kind, such as backpacks, briefcases, etc.
• Hats or headwear, except for those being worn for religious or medical purposes
• Food and drink, including chewing gum
• Unauthorized aids, such as slide rules, rulers, translation aids, highlighters, etc.
• Unauthorized medical devices, such as inhalers, Epinephrine injections, etc., unless prior approval has been obtained
