Position Title:  Campus Safety Supervisor

Position Accountable To: Director of Plant Operations

 GENERAL SUMMARY:

Manage and direct the University’s department of public safety. Provide a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, staff, visitors, and University assets. Assist in all facets of the University emergency preparedness plan.

 PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, implement, supervise, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the specific functions and services of the campus safety department, including operating policies, procedures, and methods. Assist in developing and modifying services and procedures to meet legal, regulatory, institutional, and community needs.

  • Exercise supervisory authority over campus safety officers. Plan and conduct comprehensive training programs and staff meetings. Confer regularly with staff to plan and coordinate activities, assign and check work, assist with unusual or difficult situation, and resolve problems.
  • Maintain campus safety web page and assure that all policy and crime-reporting statistics information is up to date, accurate and timely. Assist with the Annual Security Report, Clery Act and Title IX investigations. Maintain daily crime and fire log.
  • Coordinate daily inspections of all facilities, ensuring completion of inspection by campus safety staff in compliance with university lock/unlock schedule. Report any issues to physical plant personnel.
  • Direct all fire, weather, active shooter, or any other drill in conjunction with student development staff, plant operations staff and local emergency officials.
  • Maintain and monitor campus parking permit systems, ticketing systems and appeal process.
  • Coordinate all parking lot activity including the writing of parking tickets and lot signage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise campus safety department
  • Assist with student and staff concerns
  • Sub - Chair the Crisis Committee
  • Sub - Chair the Safety Committee
  • Maintains and updates the daily crime and fire log

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:             

  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or equal equivalent
  • 2+ years’ experience in law enforcement, military or security/safety position

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift 75lbs
  • Must be able to spend extended periods on foot whether standing or walking in all weather
  • Must be able to speak in a clear and loud voice

 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to thoroughly write reports using a computer
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the University
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written

 OTHER INFORMATION AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Be able to report for work during an emergency situation
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Dress for the environment, cold or hot, wet or dry
