STUDENT - MSTA
The Central Methodist University Chapter of the Student Missouri State
Teachers Association has been an established organization on this campus
for over 60 years. Like the
other S-MSTA chapters in the state, the Central Methodist University
chapter provides its members with opportunities for:
- Personal and professional growth
- Development of leadership skills
- Understanding the history, ethics and program of the teaching profession
- Participation in professional activities at the local and state level
The S-MSTA is made up of 34 Student-MSTA chapters in Missouri,
representing some 2,500 members. S-MSTA is an integral part of the
Missouri State Teachers Association and is sponsored by the MSTA.
In addition to regularly
scheduled meetings in T. Berry Smith Hall, the chapter annually sponsors
a Book Fair, Professional Development Seminars, and a First and Second
Year Teacher Workshop.
The Book Fair is scheduled each year to coincide with the annual Early
Childhood Convention at Central. Portfolios, non-traditional schools, interview preparation have
been among the topics discussed at the Professional Development
Seminars.
Student-MSTA state dues are $13 and chapter dues are $3. The state dues
pay for professional liability insurance and MSTA publications. S-MSTA
members are entitled to attend state meetings, leadership conferences
and Praxis preparation workshops.
