Education
| Overview |
The teacher education program is integrated into the broad
mission of Central Methodist University with its emphasis upon
high quality liberal arts education combined with professional
preparation. The major objective of the faculty of the Education
Department is to insure that each graduate understands that
education is a continuing process, which builds and expands,
while deepening and refining knowledge and competency. The
education curriculum is designed in such a way that pre-service
teachers at Central Methodist University may work toward
certification in early childhood, elementary, middle, or
secondary education while pursuing the departmental goals.
The State of Missouri uses an "approved program" approach to
teacher certification. Central's education program has been
approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education. Hence, students who satisfactorily complete Central's
program can be recommended for state certification. Typically,
35-50 pre-service teachers graduate each year from the main
campus in Fayette. Between 50 and 70 students annually graduate
from the teacher education program at CMU at MAC while 20 to 40
graduate from CMU at ECC. |
