Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. The society strives to promote interest in literature and the English language. It also promotes exemplary character and good fellowship among its members and exhibit high standards of academic excellence and serve society by fostering literacy. Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate and professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature.

CMU's Mu Lambda chapter oversees the annual production and publication of Inscape, CMU's magazine of the arts.

History

Sigma Tau Delta was founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University. CMU joined as the Mu Lambda chapter in 1972. Today there are over 850 active chapters worldwide, totaling around 9,000 newly inducted members each year.
