CMU Baseball Loses Two to Evangel

FAYETTE, Mo. - The Central Methodist University baseball team lost its final two Heart of America Athletic Conference games of the season Tuesday, falling to Evangel University 5-2 in game one and 10-2 in game two.
 
In game one, Evangel got out to a 5-0 lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first and adding two in the seventh.  Central Methodist scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a double to deep right by junior Carlos Martinez (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) and a hit by junior Thomas Brown (Columbia, Mo.). The Eagles were unable to continue the rally, losing 5-2.
 
Evangel took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two.  The Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the second when sophomore Derrick Pledger (Clarksville, Ark.) singled through the hole at shortstop and scored on a hit by freshman Zach Warrick (Kirkwood, Mo.) to cut the score to 2-1.  Evangel continued to build on its lead, scoring three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, and two in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead. CMU scored another run in the bottom of the sixth when junior Tyler Belt (Macon, Mo.) doubled down the left field line and scored on a double to deep center by senior Bret Wilson (Cairo, Mo.). Central Methodist was unable to get any closer as Evangel earned the 10-2 win.
 
The Central Methodist baseball team honored five seniors between games for Senior Day.  Cory Cowsert (Pacific, Mo.), Bret Wilson (Cairo, Mo.), Dan Martin (Sublimity, Ore.), Andrew Eggert (Washington, Mo.), and Charlie Dittrich (Washington, Mo.) finished their careers at CMU with Tuesday's games.
 
The Eagles finished the season with a 13-26 record overall and 10-18 in the HAAC.
