The Vinlanda Duo Pianists Return to CMU for Recital

Muñiz pair to share American Memories

The noted Vinlanda Duo, comprised of pianists Dr. Jennifer Muñiz and Dr. Jorge Muñiz, will return to Central Methodist University on Thursday, March 20, 7:30 p.m. to perform in the Willie Mae Kountz Recital Hall on the Fayette campus.

The recital is open to the public at no charge.

Dr. Jennifer Muñiz was a CMU music professor during the 2012-13 school year. Her husband, Dr. Jorge Muñiz, was an adjunct professor. They were active with musical performances on campus; and he composed a special musical piece for the CMU Concert Band, "Celebration," in honor of Dr. Marianne Inman's retirement as president of Central Methodist University.

In the recital, titled "American Memories," the Vinlanda Duo will perform "Piano Duet No. 1" by Katherine Price; "Souvenirs, Op. 28" (Waltz, Schottische, Pas de Deux, Two-Step, and Hesitation – Tango) by Samuel Barber; and "Le Grand Tango" by Astor Piazzolla.

In solo, Jennifer Muñiz will perform "The Enchanted Garden: Preludes, Book I" (Promenade, Childhood Memory) by Richard Danielpour; "Set of Five Take-Offs for Piano" (Song Without [good] Words) by Charles Ives; and "Third Piano Sonata" (Declaration, Episode, and Psalm) by Vincent Persichetti.

Both pianists earned Doctor of Musical Arts from Manhattan School of Music, Jennifer in piano performance and Jorge in composition. They currently teach at Indiana University South Bend.

As The Vinlanda Duo, the twosome has performed internationally and has been actively involved in Music Across the Atlantic, a concert series that celebrates contemporary music from both European and American traditions.
