Awards In Social Sciences At CMU

Nine gain year-end honors

Nine students in the social sciences division at Central Methodist University were presented with special awards in a ceremony held this past Saturday, May 11.

The group was recognized at an awards event just prior to 2013 Commencement ceremonies, according to Dr. Brent Meyer, chair of social sciences at CMU.

Devin Bond of Springfield, who graduated last December with a degree in psychology, gained two awards. She received the Award for Excellence in Psychology, and the Pi Gamma Mu Award for Scholastic Excellence.

Two seniors received the Judge Andrew Jackson Higgins Award for Excellence in Pre-Law Studies. Tyler Winn is a political science major from St. Louis, and Cameron Yates is a political science major from Hallsville.

Meghan Barton, a senior communication studies major from Fayette, received the Communication Department Student Media Award. Christina Burke, a senior criminal justice major from Salem, was recipient of the Award for Excellence in Criminal Justice.

Destinee Muse, a junior history major from Glasgow, was awarded the Dr. Harold Sunoo Award for Excellence in History and Political Science. The Martin E. Kooi Memorial Award for Excellence in Communication Studies was presented to Nathaniel Oliver, a senior communication studies major from Republic.

Shamika Renee Pegue, a senior psychology major from Kansas City, was recipient of the Dr. Robert Baker Award for Excellence in Sociology. The General Lewis M. Means Award for Excellence in the Study of Political Science was given to Tyler Bishop Perera, a senior political science major from Pilot Grove.

Programs within the social sciences division at CMU include communication studies, criminal justice, history, political science, psychology, and sociology, Meyer noted.
