Seven voice students from Central Methodist University participated last weekend in the 2016 National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) regional conference and competition, and three brought home awards.

Those who returned from the event in Iowa City, Iowa with awards included Daniel Terry (senior from St. Charles), a student of Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, who was selected as semi-finalist for upper college (based on the age of the student) men’s division;

Cayla Carr (sophomore from Mount Sterling) was a semi-finalist for lower college women’s division; and McKenna Nelson (sophomore from Macon) was selected as semi-finalist for upper college women’s musical theatre division. Both are students of Dr. Laura Wiebe.

Dr. Quigley-Duggan is associate professor of voice and opera at CMU’s Swinney Conservatory of Music and Dr. Laura is assistant professor of music. The students were accompanied by Mary Jane Nance, CMU collaborative pianist.

Other Central students who competed against the 443 other college and high school students from Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri are Kay Wilken (junior from Cole Camp), Keaton Denny (freshman from Cole Camp), and Daniel Jones (senior from Fayette).
