CMU Jazz Band Takes Chill Out of Air
Performing at Linn UMC Nov. 19
The ever-popular Central Methodist University Jazz Band will perform Tuesday evening, Nov. 19, at 7:30 in Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the Fayette campus
This feisty group is led by the dynamic duo of Dr. Ronald Shroyer and wife JoEllen Ming Shroyer. Both are CMU adjunct professors of music. "Doc," as he is known on campus, is dean emeritus of the Swinney Conservatory of Music. The concert is free and open to the public.
The 18-member band will play a variety of hot licks and smooth cool jazz pieces. Scheduled are "Strike up the Band" (Gershwin/Cooper), "Let's Get It Going" (Ron Shroyer), "Sweet Georgia Brown" (Bernie, Pinkard/Nestico), "So What" (Miles Davis/Shroyer), "Perdido" (Juan/Tizol/Henderson), "Chickenscratch" (Hooper), "Doc's Good Licks" (Ron Shroyer), "Country Road" (Wheeler, arr.), "Blue Monk" (Monk/Shroyer), "Shine" (Mack, Brown/Shroyer), "Samba de Orfeo" (Bonfa/Shroyer), and "April in Paris" (Duke/Nestico).
Several performers will present solos within these songs. They include Brad Smith, Anne Marie Pelley, Dylan Hawkins, Ryan Lewis, Alex Kirby, Derek Volkmann, Wayne Brown, Ron Shroyer, and Brittany Losh.
