CMU Spring Jazz Concert April 22
A spring in every step and jazz in the spring—what could be better. The Central Methodist University Spring Jazz Concert will be played on Tuesday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the Fayette campus.
Directing the feisty band will be husband and wife jazz lovers Dr. Ron "Doc" Shroyer, CMU emeritus professor of music, and Jo Ellen Shroyer, CMU adjunct professor of music.
The Shroyers will lead the jazz band in a series of well-known favorite pieces, including "Ain't Misbehavin'" (Fats Waller); "Autumn Leaves" (Joseph Kosma); "Body and Soul" (John Green); "Cannon Fodder" (Ronald Shroyer); "Corner Pocket" (Freddie Green); "Do Nothin' Til You Hear from Me," "Mood Indigo," and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" (Duke Ellington);
"Give It One" (Maynard Ferguson); "Star Dust" (Hoagy Carmichael); "Stella by Starlight" (Victor Young); "Strike Up the Band" (George and Ira Gershwin); "String of Pearls" (Jerry Gray); "Take the 'A' Train" (Billy Strayhorn); "Tuxedo Junction" (Erskine Hawkins and Bill Johnson); and "You Came a Long Way from St. Louis" (B. Russell and J. B. Brooks).
The CMU Jazz Band is an intrepid group made up of 15 multi-talented students and a professor.
