Music Groups Put on Combined Christmas Program
Performing at Thespian Hall in Boonville December 8
Three of Central Methodist University's top music groups—Chorale, Conservatory Singers, and Concert Band—are joining in a special musical presentation on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. at Thespian Hall in Boonville.
The concert is free and open to the public.
It is rare to have these three musical groups perform together; rarer still for them to perform together off-campus. This year the late date of Thanksgiving and the early date of finals conspired to provide this opportunity at historic Thespian Hall, property of The Friends of Historic Boonville, Inc.
The Conservatory Singers, directed by Dr. Ron Atteberry, CMU assistant professor of music, and accompanied on piano by Ruth Spayde, CMU adjunct professor and staff accompanist, will sing "Hallelujah, Christ is Born" (Powell);
"Christmas Fanfare" (Pierce) with the assistance of trumpet ensemble Lakyn Baker (senior, Fayette), Wayne Brown (sophomore, O'Fallon), Zack Fincher (junior, Lebanon), Katelyn Hanvey (freshman, Centralia), Lucas Johnson (sophomore, Pacific), Ann Marie Pelley (junior, St. Peters), and Rachel Richard (senior, Eldon); as directed by Dr. John Perkins, CMU associate professor of music;
"Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" (traditional/arr. Track); "Silent Night" (Gruber/arr. Joio) with Jennifer Hopkins (junior, Monett) at the piano;
"Baby It's Cold Outside" (Loesser/arr. Shaw) with Sam Gaddy (junior, Waverly) on drums; and Emily Everett (sophomore, Florissant) and Pam Crawford (senior, Columbia) on flutes;
"O Holy Night (Adams/arr. Scholin) with faculty soloists Lacey Eaton, soprano, and Tom Arnold, tenor, both CMU adjunct professors of music; and
"We wish You a Merry Christmas" (traditional/arr. Rutter).
The Chorale, which is directed by Dr. Claude Westfall, CMU assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, will have recently returned from its fall tour through mid- and southwest Missouri.
The Chorale will sing "Ding Dong! Merrily on High" (traditional/arr. Paulus); "I Wonder as I Wander" (traditional/arr. Niles); "Morning Trumpet" (traditional/arr. Shaw and Parker); "To Us a Child is Born" (Herbst);
"While by my Sheep" (arr. Jungst); "White Christmas" (arr. Reeves); and "The Shepherds had an Angel" by Besly, and accompanied by Rebecca Shroyer (senior, Boonville) on clarinet.
The Concert Band, which will tour in the spring, is directed by Skip Vandelicht, CMU assistant professor of music and director of bands. The band will play "Olympia Hippodrome" (Alexander); "Satiric Dances" (Joio); "Pagliacci Intermezzo" (Leoncavallo/arr. Glover); and "American Civil War Fantasy" (Bilik).
There will also be an audience sing-along with the band and choirs that will include favorite carols "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Silent Night," "The First Noel," "Away in a Manger," and "Joy to the World" (arr. Kiser.)
