Dr. Joe Geist, curator of Central Methodist University's Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art and professor emeritus of English, is preparing to lead another of his famous guided tours. He will be taking a group of area participants to London, England, from September 13-22, 2013.

London is the largest city in Europe, founded in the first century A.D. by the Romans. It provided them the perfect trade, administrative, and communications center, with England marking the farthest extent of the Roman Empire.

Today London still retains those traits and is full of historic and cultural treasures that meld seamlessly into this exciting, contemporary city.

The tour will include guided visits to Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, the Changing of the Guard, the National Portrait Gallery, the Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, the Tate Modern Gallery, Covent Garden, the British Museum, Hampton Court Palace, the National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Tate British Gallery, among other places.

Time will be provided for shopping and exploring such famous London areas as Oxford and Regent Streets, Piccadilly Circus, and Leicester Square.

The trip is open to all. The total fee of $3,300 (subject to change) per person covers round trip airfare, including taxes; a three-star hotel in twin rooms with private facilities; continental breakfasts daily; four dinners during the trip; two theatre performances; and transportation passes for the bus and subway ("tube") systems.

Reservations, including a $500 deposit per person, are due by March 1 to Heather Carlton. Checks (made out to CMU and noted "London") may be mailed to her care of Central Methodist University, 411 Central Methodist Square, Fayette, MO 65248-1198. Credit cards are also accepted. Heather can also provide further information, including the availability of travel insurance. Contact her at hcarlton@centralmethodist.edu or at 660-248-6234.
