CMU's Swinney Conservatory Presents Annual Gems Recital

The Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University will present its annual "Gems of Vocal Literature Recital" on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. in the Willie Mae Kountz Recital Hall on the Fayette campus.

The Gems concert highlights upper-level music students from the Conservatory studios of Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, associate professor of music and Ron Atteberry, assistant professor of music. The concert is free and open to the public.

The recital will feature solos and ensembles singing pieces from composers such as Berger, Brahms, Debussy, Donaudy, Faure, Gianni, Gounod, Handel, Haydn, Martini, Mozart, Purcell, Quilter, Scarlatti, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, Vaughan-Williams, and Wagner.

Performing will be sopranos Shawna Crisler (sophomore from St. Clair), Rebecca Shroyer (junior from Boonville), Calley Rogers (senior from Lebanon), Hannah Utlaut (senior from Fayette), Aubrey Taylor (senior from Columbia), Courtney Myers (sophomore from Fayette), and Brittany Losh (junior from Pacific).

Also tenors Thomas Myers (junior from Fayette), Michael O'Neill (senior from Pleasant Hill), Hershel Williams (sophomore from Buffalo), Cal Bergthold (junior from Fayette), Alex Kirby (junior from Columbia), Zackary Fincher (sophomore from Lebanon), and Austin Long (sophomore from Monroe City); and baritones Dane Johnson (junior from Columbia) and Levi Gerke (sophomore from Pilot Grove).

Also mezzo-soprano Tanji Hoover (junior from New Franklin); countertenor John-Michael Emmons (junior from Columbia).

Students will be accompanied by Dr. Jorge Muniz and Kelly Head, both adjunct professors of music; and Ruth Spayde, Conservatory administrative assistant and staff accompanist.
