Dr. John Ditto Presents Wicks Organ Recital

The annual Wicks organ recital will be held Sunday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m., in Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the campus of Central Methodist University. Guest organist Dr. John Ditto will perform, and the event is open to the public and free of charge.

Ditto is associate professor emeritus of the University of Missouri - Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. He is currently music director and organist of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo. Ditto was associate professor of music at Central Methodist University from 1975-81, and organist at Linn Memorial UMC and at Calvary Episcopal Church in Columbia.

For the Wicks recital, Ditto will perform "Praeludium in E minor" ("The Great") by N. Bruhns; "O Lamm Gottes, unschuldig," BWV 656 ("O Lamb of God, Pure, Spotless") and "Prelude and Fugue in C Major" ("9/8?), BWV 547, both by J.S. Bach; "Organ Sonata in A Minor, Op. 2" (I. Praeludium) by L. Thuille; "Sinfonia in Honor of St. John the Baptist" (I. Ut queant laxis, II. Ecce agnus Dei, and III. In Spiritu et Igni) by N. Hakim; and "Carillon de Westminster" by L. Vierne.

A native of Plattsburg, Mo., Ditto earned his bachelor of music degree from Drake University, his master's degree from the University of Michigan, and his doctor of musical arts degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he won the prestigious Performer's Certificate.

He has served as organist/choirmaster for churches in Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, and New York. He has studied with Jack Ralston, Russell Saunders and Robert Glasgow, among other notables.

The Wicks Organ Recital is sponsored annually by Linn Memorial United Methodist Church.
