Head Spirit Squad Coach (Cheer & Dance) |

Central Methodist University has an immediate opening for a Head Spirit Squad Coach. This position coaches and supervises both the Cheer and Dance squads for practices, athletic contests and competitions with teaching duties assigned according to qualifications. This is a 10 month (plus*) position with full benefits. This position reports to the Athletic Director.
* The months of June and July are considered vacation except when it is necessary to attend an athletic meeting, fundraiser, and student recruiting and registration days that are held throughout the year. The position must maintain regular communication with the Office of Admission and the athletic department during this period.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Organizing, supervising and administering CMU's NAIA cheer and dance program with adherence to NCA/NDA competition guidelines;

Choreographing and teaching cheer/dance routines;

Assessing skills and assigning squad positions;

Working with the Athletic Director to schedule facilities and resources for practices and events;

Participating fully with the Office of Admission to recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes;

Attending, coaching, and supervising all squad practices, athletic contests and competitions;

Holding regular office hours;

Teaching 2 hours a semester (4 hours a year);

Setting and conducting practice times after academic classes;

Monitoring the academic performance of each squad member to ensure that eligibility requirements are met;

Being accountable for the use of program funds including monies from fundraising;

Submitting budget needs annually to the Athletic Director in accordance with established timelines and guidelines;

Holding tryouts or conducting auditions to select new members of each squad;

Organizing and managing all fundraising events;

Enforcing the rules of the team and the Athletic department;

Promoting a spirit of cooperation and friendship between the cheer and dance squads;

Encouraging squad members to participate and support other University and local community service events;

Meeting regularly with the Athletic Director;
-
Performing other duties as assigned in these areas of responsibility.
Education/Experience:
A bachelor's degree is required. Demonstrated experience in fundraising and coaching experience is preferred. Commitment to mission of CMU and to NAIA Champions of Character philosophy. Must exhibit excellent communication, managerial, organizational, and planning skills.
