Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan
Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera, joined the faculty of the Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University in the fall of 2006. She taught voice and opera for over 18 years on the Music faculty at The University of Connecticut. She has performed as a concert soloist and in numerous operatic roles, oratorio, and recitals and has directed one-act, full operas and operettas in The New England area. For The UConn Women in the Arts Series she created, performed, directed and narrated two programs on the historical development of women in opera entitled, "Comic Opera’s Sweetheart : She’s a Soubrette" and "What Can We Poor Females Do?" She more recently has performed the role Sr Genovieve in Puccini's, Suor Angelica and the role of Frasquita in Victor Borge's adaptation of the opera Carmen at the Jorgensen Theatre. Other roles performed include, Musetta, from La Boheme, Susanna from, The Marriage of Figaro, Serpina from La Serva Padrona and Louisa from Prokoffiev's, La Duenna Despina, from Cosi fan tutte. She has performed with The Hartford Symphony as narrator- singer-actress for their in school- touring programs. She has directed Menotti’s, The Telephone, Amahl and The Night Visitors, Barab's, Little Red Riding Hood and Chanticleer for the touring company for the Connecticut Young Artists Opera Express. For The UConn Opera Theater she directed, Mozart's, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Impresario, Haydn's, La Vera Costanza, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Humperdinck's, Hansel and Gretel, Floyd's, Flower and The Hawk, Pasatieri's, La Divina, and Bernstein's, Trouble and Tahiti, among others.
Dr. Quigley-Duggan's vocal students have been finalists in the undergraduate and graduate division of CT NATS and in the Kansas NATS City Chapter. Her CT students were finalists in the Amici Opera competition and winners of The UConn Concerto Competition .She has been a vocal adjudicator for NATS, Hartford Musical Club, CT District and All-State festivals and for the MHHSA Music Festival and the UCM Quisteroff Aria Competition. During the past several summers Dr. Quigley-Duggan directed the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, The Gondoliers, The Mikado, and Patience at Central Methodist University. In the fall of 2007, she performed the recital, Songs in Spanish Style at The University of Missouri-Columbia accompanied by pianist, Dr. Barbara Hamel. She prepared and directed an abridged version of Mozart's, The Magic Flute for the Swinney Conservatory Opera Workshop for February 2008. She was vocal adjudicator at MMTA fall 2007 conference in Springfield, Mo. She has also given vocal master classes at MSU at the UCM and Lincoln University.
