ad-aware

Ad-Aware is a program that can assist you with spyware issues.  Instructions for installation
are below or you may refer to the Ad-Aware web site.

• Download and install Ad-Aware

   

  • A dialog box will appear that asks: Do you want to run or save this file? Click SAVE and save to any location on your computer -- just make sure you know where it is.

   

  • A dialog box will appear that says: DOWNLOAD COMPLETE and then Click RUN

   

  • The setup wizard will appear, click NEXT and follow the prompts

     

    • One screen gives you the option of installing the program so that only you can use the program or if anyone can use the program. It is recommended to select the ‘Anyone who uses this computer’ option.

     

    • A few boxes will pop up, it is important that you do not interfere with these boxes as you may stop or corrupt the installation.

     

    •  You may unselect the “Open Help File Now” option if you do not wish to read the help file, but it is recommended that you leave the other options checked and click FINISH.

     

    • The last screen, Ad-Aware will automatically update itself, protecting you from the most current spyware threats. The main window for Ad-Aware will open in a few seconds after completing the update.
       

    • Updates

      • In order to make sure you are up-to-date on the latest spyware definitions, note the date of the definition file.

       

      • If a network connection is present, Click on the GLOBE icon in the upper right hand side of the screen.

       

      • A box will pop up to start updating, Click CONNECT

       

      • If updates are available simply click OK

       

      • Click Finish
         

• Scanning with Ad-Aware

   

  • Make sure Ad-Aware is started

   

  • Click SCAN NOW or START

   

  • Select option Perform Full system scan and NEXT

   

  • Scan Complete, this will display the results of the search. Click NEXT

   

  • You must check the box next to the files that you want removed and click NEXT  

  • It will state how many are being removed and ask to Continue? Click OK
