Library Services

Smiley Memorial Library offers a variety of services for students,
faculty, and staff.
These services include:
Reference Services
Our Reference staff is available to assist patrons with all their
information needs. For assistance, inquire at the circulation
desk near the library entrance, or
email us with your questions. Do not hesitate to ask the
staff if you have questions regarding library services or other
information needs.
Information Literacy and Instruction
Information literacy means much more than just
knowing how to read a book or operate a computer. The Smiley
Memorial Library Information Literacy Program integrates library
instruction into many courses here at CMU. A library tour or
specialized instruction session can be beneficial in improving
library skills and overall achievement in academics. Some
information literacy resources can also be found under
Classroom Resources.
Juvenile Literature and Curriculum Collection
The juvenile literature and curriculum collection
are located on the third floor of the library. This collection
contains children's books, from early childhood to young adult, as
well as curriculum aids, workbooks, and manipulatives.
Flip Video Recorders
Two Flip Video Recorders are now available for
checkout. These compact camcorders have a built in USB plugin and
software, so you can use them on any computer. Flip cameras store
up to 60 mins of footage. 2 hr checkout, reserve fines apply for
overdue items.
Nintendo Wii Video Game Systems
Each group study room in the Information Commons
is equipped with a Will console. Equipment must be checked out
from the circulation desk and used in the library. Additional
games will be added as funding permits, but you are welcome to bring in
your own games.
DVD Players
DVD players are available in each of the group study
rooms. Students may use them for personal or classroom viewing.
Popular DVD Collection
The library houses an ever-growing popular DVD
collection, funded by the SGA. Titles are chosen with input from
the students. You may check out 2 titles and keep for for three
days. Normal fines accrue for overdue items. Come checkout
this free service!!
Digital Cameras
Two digital cameras are available
for checkout to students, faculty and staff. These cameras may be
checked out at the front desk of the library with a photo id.

Laptop Computers
Two wireless laptops are available
for checkout to students, faculty and staff. Come to the circulation
desk located near the library entrance to inquire about
availability. The patron must present a driver's license or other
government issued photo id that will be kept for the duration of the
checkout period.

Coffee Bar
Located near the entrance of the
library in the Head Family Room, our coffee bar offers patrons fresh
brewed coffee, hot chocolate, spiced cider, herbal tea and flavored
tea.

Smiley Library Mug: $2 Mug
comes with a free cup of coffee
Computers and other Equipment
Located on every floor of the
library are PC's equipped with Microsoft Office 2007 as well as
networked printers. Two wireless laptops and two digital cameras are
available for checkout. Other equipment available for patron use are
headphones, CD players, record player and TV/VCR (inquire at the
circulation desk).
Practice Test Service
Smiley Memorial
Library is pleased to offer its patrons
