admission requirements
PURPOSE: To carefully screen all applicants to the nursing program in
order to select those applicants with the best chance of success, to
provide academic advising at the time of admission.
POLICY: The department chair and the faculty members shall review all
applications to the nursing program. The faculty will determine whether
an applicant may be admitted unconditionally, admitted with provisions,
or not admitted, based on established criteria.
PROCEDURE: The Admissions Committee shall evaluate records and determine
an applicant’s admissibility. Completed files of undergraduate and
transfer students will be reviewed. Students who are qualified will be
admitted to the nursing program.
CRITERIA PRIOR TO ADMISSION
- Current Bachelor’s of Science Degree from a nationally accredited
college or university.
- Bachelor’s degree with relevant nursing experience
- RN License in Missouri (current)
- Cumulative GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from baccalaureate program
- Statistics course with a C grade or better
- Computer experience/literacy
- Current Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (within the last two
years) on file. (This may be waived based upon cumulative 3.3 GPA of
last 60 credit hours of coursework.)
- Submission of a one page written statement of personal nursing
philosophy and goals which demonstrate scholarly writing competencies
- Must meet the admission requirements of Central Methodist University’s
Graduate and Extended Studies Division, as well as Central Methodist
University admission requirements.
- One year work experience within the previous 3 years (this requirement
may be waived at faculty discretion).
Upon acceptance into the M.S.N. program, students must show proof of the
following:
a. Physical examination within past year.
b. Rubella titer and/or immunization.
c. Current DT immunization.
d. Hepatovax injection series.
Students must show proof of meeting the following requirements annually
by September 1.
a. Montaux/PPD within the last year.
b. Current CPR certification.
c. Malpractice insurance.
CMU MSN CURRICULUM--34 total credit hours
Students will be admitted as a cohort with 10-12 people per cohort.
There will be no transfer hours accepted. Students must complete the
following classes in any general sequential order with the knowledge
that the final class, NU522 Clinical Nurse Leader Residency (4 credit
hours), must be completed as the last class at the end of the program.
