Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan

Dr. Susan Quigley-DugganDr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera, joined the faculty of Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University in the fall of 2006. She taught voice and opera for over 18 years on the Music faculty at The University of Connecticut. She has performed as a concert soloist and in numerous operatic roles, oratorio, and recitals and has directed one- act, full operas and operettas in The New England area. For The UConn Women in the Arts Series she created, performed, directed and narrated two programs on the historical development of women in opera entitled, “Comic Opera’s Sweetheart : She’s a Soubrette” and “What Can We Poor Females Do?” She more recently has performed the role Sr Genovieve in Puccini’s, Suor Angelica and the role of Frasquita in Victor Borge’s adaptation of the opera Carmen in CT. She has performed with The Hartford Symphony as narrator- singer-actress for their in school- touring programs. She has directed Menotti’s. The Telephone, Amahl and The Night Visitors, Barab’s, Little Red Riding Hood and Chanticleer for the in-school opera programs for the Connecticut Young Artists Opera Express.

Her vocal students have been division winners in the undergraduate and graduate NATS Honors Competitions, and have been finalists in the Amici Opera competition in CT as well as winners of The Concerto Competition at UConn..She has been a vocal adjudicator for NATS, Hartford Musical Club and for the All- State Music Festival. This past summer Dr. Quigley-Duggan directed the Gilbert and Sullivan Performance Workshop of the operetta, The Gondoliers at Central Methodist University. In the fall of 2007 she performed this recital, Songs in Spanish Style on October 7th at Central Methodist University accompanied by pianist, Dr. Barbara Hamel in The Kountz Recital Hall. She is currently preparing and directing an abridged version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute for the Swinney Conservatory Opera Workshop for February. She will be vocal adjudicator at MMTA fall conference and competition in Springfield in November and will be giving a special master class for singers in spring 2008 at Central Missouri State University. She is planning to offer another summer operetta workshop at Central Methodist where she will direct, The Mikado.
