Larry L. Bennett
Larry Bennett received his Bachelor's degree in music education from
Central Methodist University in 1969 and his Master's degree from Truman
State University in 1974. During his thirty-one year teaching career, he
served the Missouri school districts of Salisbury (1969-1974) and Macon
(1974-2001). The 2001-2002 school year was spent serving as the Visiting
Associate Director of Bands at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Since 2002, he has been employed as Adjunct Professor of Music at
Central Methodist University in Fayette. In that capacity, Professor
Bennett presently teaches the low brass studio, Brass Techniques, Basic
Conducting, and Advanced Instrumental Conducting. In the fall of 2007,
he was asked to serve as the Assistant Director of the Central Methodist
Concert Band for the 2007-2008 academic year. Bennett also holds the
position of Assistant Director for the Columbia Community Band.
During his tenure at Macon, the Concert Band was selected to perform
for the Missouri Music Educators Conference on five separate occasions.
The Marching Band and the Jazz Ensemble also received many awards for
their excellence. Bennett maintains memberships in the Music Educators
National Conference, the Missouri Music Educators Association, the
Missouri Bandmasters Association, the Missouri Retired Teachers
Association, Phi Beta Mu, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Personal
recognition includes being inducted into the Missouri Bandmasters
Association "Hall of Fame" in 2002, and receiving the Charles Emmons
Band Director of the Year Award presented by Lambda Chapter of Phi Beta
Mu in 1995.
Bennett maintains a busy schedule as a guest conductor, clinician,
and adjudicator.
