aid general information
You may qualify for four major sources of financial assistance:
- Scholarship - Scholarships
are a form of aid that can help you pay for your education and
unlike student loans, they do not have to be repaid. A scholarship is
awarded based on your academic achievement, participation in certain student or co-curricular activities, or other criteria particular to a specific scholarship.
You are encouraged to seek
scholarship consideration from local agencies that offer
scholarships to students. Your high school guidance counselor should
have a list of local scholarships.
- Grant - A grant is generally based
upon an evaluation of your financial need (and therefore is called
need-based aid), and may come from federal, state or college
sources. Like scholarships, grants are not repaid.
- Loan - A loan for educational expenses
is an option if you are eligible or if your parents qualify. A loan
must be repaid, but your repayment begins only when you cease to be
enrolled at least half-time, and favorable interest rates apply.
- Student Employment -
The University encourages all students to gain work experience while
attending the Fayette campus. Part-time jobs are available
with flexibility to work around your course schedule. Students
interested in learning more about student work opportunities should
review our specific section on
student employment.
You should carefully review our listing of federal, state and college
scholarships, grants, loans and employment opportunities to determine
which ones you wish to consider.
