Career Services
The following services are offered by the James C. Denneny, Jr. Career
Development Center:
Career Resource Library - Current career–related books, free
journals and publications, newsletters
and career- specific handouts are available. Students have ability to
check out materials for three
days at a time.
Assessments - The Career Development Office offers several
assessments to assists students in the process of determining a career
path. The Holland Card Sort, the Missouri Occupational Card Sort, the
Strong Interest Inventor and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator are all
available to students by appointment. SIGI 3 is also available through
the University network 24/7. This tool is an educational and career
planning software program that integrates self-assessment with in-depth
and up-to-date career information.

Career
Exploration - Students may make individual appointments to talk
about internship
possibilities, job shadowing and informational interviewing. Contact the
Career Development
Center to make an appointment
Career Counseling - Appointments may be made with the
professional staff to assist students with
individual needs.
Workshops - A professional staff develops and presents workshops
on topics such as: Resume Writing Tips, Successful Cover Letters,
Successful Interviewing Strategies, Marketing Yourself, Network for
Career Success, Job Searching Skills, Presentation Portfolio for
Foliotek, and more. See Schedule of Events
Resume Review - Students may have their resumes and application
materials reviewed by scheduling an appointment with the professional
staff or by utilizing the ‘drop-in’ times as available. Drop in times
are Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and Thursdays from 9:00 am to
11:00 am. Sample resumes, cover letters and reference pages are also
available.
Credential Services - For education majors, the Career
Development Center keeps confidential files containing student’s resume,
letters of reference, certificates, and other relevant information. The
Center sends the materials to all school districts or job sites selected
by the student. Stop by the Center to sign up!

Job Searching - Several on-line job searching and resume posting
systems are available specifically for CMU students as well as specific
links by major and interest.
Mock Interviews - Interviewing skills are honed during
video-taped mock interviews offered in the Center Development Center.
Contact the staff to set up an appointment.
On-Campus Opportunities - The Center hosts companies,
organizations, and graduate schools for on-campus interviews and/or
informational sessions.
Professional Business Etiquette - Professional etiquette dinners
and events are provided free of charge to freshmen through seniors.
Career Fair - An annual Career EXPO is hosted in the Conference
Room of the Student & Community Center in the Spring. Employers offering
full time positions, internships and summer employment as well as
Graduate and Professional School recruiters attend. Known organizations
such as Shelter Insurance, AFLAC and Enterprise Rent-A-Car have attended
in the past.

The Center also co-sponsors the MoJOE, a career fair targeted for
education majors which is held in late Spring. The Career Development
Center also advertises other fairs and career development opportunities
in the state of Missouri.
Graduate & Professional School Information - Resources, entrance
exam registration, on-line
practice tests, and study guides are available. Sessions on applying to
graduate school are
provided as well as one-on-one assistance by appointment.
Alumni Mentor Program - The Center will assist students in
networking with alumni in a field of interest or a targeted company.
