[BIG SIGH]

Bonjour tout le monde. Ça va? Je me sens comme je nage à contre-courant mais, je suis hereuse parce-que la fin approche.

I'm tired and i'm thinking in all sorts of different languagess. What can I say...3 more days of classes, a weekend of intense studying, two days of exams and then kaboom!!! Hurray!! Yeah! woo hoo! Vacation!!!

When I look at it that way, maybe I can make it after all.

Spring!!!!!
finally!
Posted on Thursday, April 17, 2008.

Habari!!!! (Hello in swahili)

Hello good people! SPRING!!!! What more is there to say? There an almost dreamlike atmosphere about the emergence of spring; there are more people hanging around outside chattering blithely in groups. All the brightly coloured shirts, shorts and flip-flops seem to be right at home - as if they find it difficult to identify with winter.

I am altogether restless these days. I am plagued with an impatience for the onset of the summer vacation - almost to the point of frustration. The end of another week is just a reminder of how soon the summer will be here (Thank goodness!).  The excitement of learning has lost it's power over me - for this semester anyway. It is almost as if the spell that made learning new material and doing homework fulfilling is loosing it's hold over me. I'm tired I suppose. In my current state of mind, school is just a necessary means to an end - namely; vacation.

I can imagine how these feelings are intensified for graduating seniors. Where I have the security of knowing what I'll be doing this summer (lazing about and eating my friends and relatives into bankruptcy), the graduates have to deal with the anxiety of returning to smallfishness in the big pond that is the 'real world'. Hang in there guys! By the way, if you had not already gathered, I am very fond of making up words.

The leadership and service day was a magnificent initiative -two thumbs up to those whose hard work made it possible.

International Eagles' week
The week in review
Posted on Friday, April 11, 2008.

Shalom!

I am pleased to announce that the International Student week was a success. Beacause there is a very small group of international students, I did not think we would pull it off. The Chapel service on Tuesday and the International Lunch went well.  I was very pleasantly surprised by the turn-out at the International social. It was lots of fun...there was LOTS of food, and all kinds of music; from Bob Marley classics to Kenyan and Belgian hip-hop. There was a great vibe with lots of dancing and even the limbo. Needless to say, by the end of the night, everyone was all danced out.

I don't really have anything else to report...the dramatic change in weather has ruined my weekend plans, but have no fear...there's always something to do in Fayette :)

Have a safe weekend. I am looking forward to the Leadership conference on Tuesday!

 A bientot!

Time flies
Nothing exciting to report
Posted on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.

Hello everyone,

I have been enjoying the warm(er)weather over the past few days. I have no exciting news to report. This week has gone by so fast, still trying to take it all in. I'm afraid to say that this is one of these weeks when I am just coping with life, not living it. I'm looking forward to International student week (the week beginning 7 April) and am excited about the planning that is going into it.

Enjoy the rest of your week and Carpe diem.

Spring 2008 - Act 2 scene 1
An increase in tempo as we begin the second half of the semester
Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008.

Hi all!

I hope you enjoyed your spring break. After a week of lazing around and basking in the sun, (whenever it chose to make an appearance), getting back into a routine is hard work.

Spring Break marks the beginning of the hustle and bustle that is characteristic of the second half of the semester. After midterms my schedule begins to fill up and my life becomes a little more hectic; functions, deadlines, 15 page papers, more deadlines, and my personal favourite -self scheduling naps and meals in my day finals. I find myself scheduling meals and naps in my day planner - because I often do forget! Although there is a lot to be done, I appreciate that it zips by and I haven't enough time to worry about it all. Even more comforting is the thought of the Summer holiday. When I think of those 3 months of relaxation and catching up on lost beauty sleep, it all seems worth it. (I know I'm going to be busy, but it doesn't hurt to dream)

In Zimbabwe the academic calender is quite different to the American system. There are 3 terms each between 12 and 15 weeks long. There is therefore no Summer holiday (the longest school vacation is 5 to 6 weeks long and falls around Christmas time). When students across the U.S. are on summer vacation, students across the pond are in school and it is winter time. I realized just the other day that if I go home every summer, I will (technically) not experience summer for a good 4 years. I'm not sure wether to be depressed or nonchalant about that annoying little technicality. Ok. Fine. I've just decided: I'll be nonchalant.

Well, if you're like me and get terribly busy around this time, hang in there!

Makomborero,
