Coach Mike Jackson
Mike
Jackson of Columbia, a veteran volleyball coach, has accepted the
position of head volleyball coach at Central Methodist University,
announced CMU Athletic Director Kenneth Oliver.
Jackson, who has been director of volleyball operations for Mizzou
(University of Missouri-Columbia) for the past three years, also served
as head coach of the University of Missouri women’s club volleyball
team. In 2005, he was named National Intramural-Recreational Sports
Association (NIRSA) Coach of the Year as his squad was ranked No. 1 in
the country prior to its post-season tournament. The Mizzou women’s club
team has participated in six straight national tournaments, finishing as
runner-up in 2003 and 2004.
“I’m very excited to be able to hire Mike Jackson for our volleyball
program,” Oliver said. “I think he will be a major asset to CMU’s
athletic program.” Oliver said the current coach, Dominique Savage, is
relocating to Arkansas, where her husband has accepted a position.
“Dominique has been an excellent coach, and we are sorry to see her
leave,” Oliver added.
Jackson will begin as CMU’s head volleyball coach immediately, Oliver
said. In his prior position, Jackson also coached the NIRSA’s All-Star
Team (“Club USA”) from 2003 to 2005. He led his teams to the title at
the St. Thomas, Virgin Island, international tournament in 2003 and
2005.
Jackson also played for the University of Missouri men’s volleyball club
team from 1989 to 1993. A native of Kansas City, Mo., he earned his
bachelor’s degree in business administration from Columbia College in
1994.
