2008 volleyball Season OutlookThe 2008 Lady Eagles volleyball squad will aim to pick up where it left off last season and attempt to bring home the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship this year. During their first year under Head Coach Mike Jackson in 2007, the Lady Eagles more than doubled their wins from the previous season, compiling at 19-14 record overall. Central Methodist finished tied for third in the HAAC and advanced to the NAIA Regional Tournament. The Lady Eagles lost just two seniors from last year's team, All-HAAC honorable mention outside hitter Nancy Sikobe and middle hitter Tiffany Grayer. They return four players who received postseason recognition in 2007. Senior outside hitter Rael Rotich, a first-team All-HAAC and NAIA All-Region V selection, will lead the Lady Eagles. Rael Rotich led last year's team with 384 kills on the season, while also recording 75 blocks and 35 ace serves. Senior libero Krista McShane earned second-team All-HAAC honors, while senior setter Michelle Wilson and junior middle hitter Violah Rotich were named to the All-HAAC honorable mention. McShane posted 692 digs during 2007 and also had a team-high 95.8 serving percentage. Wilson dished out 758 set assists, while picking up 267 digs. Violah Rotich led the Lady Eagles with 103 blocks and was second on the team with 222 kills on the season. The Lady Eagles will also rely on their four other seniors, middle/right side hitter Amy Guerin, middle hitter Amanda Raker, defensive specialist Nichole Jones and middle hitter Mara Silva, for leadership. The team welcomes two all-conference transfers, along with a stellar incoming recruiting class, who will help build depth. The Lady Eagles' junior varsity squad also has high expectations as it vies for its first-ever HAAC JV Conference Championship. In addition to returning nearly the entire squad from 2007, CMU has added several recruits with outstanding athletic credentials and high academic standards.
