Evelina Slatinska enters her fourth year as a coach at Central Methodist. This will be her second overseeing the men’s and women’s cross country programs.

In her time at Central Methodist, Slatinska's distance runners have made great strides, highlighted by the past season’s results. The 2008-09 year was one of the best for distance runners at Central Methodist. The men’s cross country team finished second at the HAAC Cross Country Championships. The women finished third to produce one of the best combined team performances in school history. Slatinska had one individual advance to the NAIA Cross Country Championships, Lizy Boit. She also had three athletes receive NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards during the cross country season.

The men’s cross country team was a contender in every meet they competed. They picked up a third-place finish at the Baker Maple Leaf Invitational to open the season and added a team win at the Gary Stoner Invitational and a runner-up finish at the Graceland Invitational before the HAAC Championships.

On the track, Slatinska’s distance runners provided valuable points to the team efforts both indoors and outdoors. Slatinska had a conference champion, Mike Hernandez, 1000 meters, and an All-American, Peter Muldoon, 5000 race walk, in addition to six individual national qualifiers and a relay, 4x800 indoors, during the season.

“Coach Slatinska has done an outstanding job coaching the cross country team and distance runners on the track,” said CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jeff Hoskisson. “I don’t think we would be where we are at without her. She does an excellent job of communicating with the athletes and getting them to buy into the system.”

In 2008, Slatinska coached four NAIA Championship qualifiers, two All-Academic athletes and numerous runners who earned All-HAAC Conference honors.

In addition to coaching current CMU athletes, Slatinska also works with Patrick Stroupe, a former Eagle who was a five-time NAIA National Champion in the race walk. Stroupe finished third at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials and was the runner-up at this past summer’s USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 20K race walk.

During her running career at Central Methodist, Slatinska earned five individual NAIA national titles and 11 NAIA All-American honors -- the most in school history. She won back-to-back titles in the indoor mile and outdoor 1500 meters in 2003 and 2004. She also won the 2003 outdoor 5000 title. In cross country, Slatinska was a three-time runner-up at the NAIA national meet.

Slatinska sits atop CMU's cross country chart with the fastest 5K time in school history. She also holds records in the 1000, mile and 3000 indoors, as well as the 800, 1500 and 5000 outdoors.

A native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Slatinska represented her country in the Balkan Games, European Cup and World Cup. In 1998, she was the 1500 champion at the Balkan Games. Slatinska was also the Bulgarian champion in the 800, 1500 and 3000 from 1996 to 2002.

Slatinska graduated from Central Methodist with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 2006 and in December 2008 she received her Master's of Education from CMU.

Slatinska and her husband Nick live in Fayette with their daughter, Nikol. In her free time, Slatinska enjoys running, reading and spending time with her daughter.
