Campus Tryout
If you are interested in joining the CMU Spirit Squad and cannot make it to a scheduled tryout, you may contact Jessica Cook, Spirit Squad Coordinator, to schedule an individual tryout. While you are at CMU, you will have the opportunity to tour campus, meet with the Admissions office, meet with Financial Aid, and visit with a Faculty member in your area of interest. Be prepared to perform the requirements listed below. (You will be provided with a CD/tape player to use with your own material.)

Video Tryout
We highly recommend that you tryout on-campus, however if coming to CMU may be a problem, you may also tryout via videotape. You will be required to perform the same requirements as a Campus Tryout. Please begin the video by stating your name, your hometown and high school, and your cheer/dance experience. You will be then required to perform the requirements listed below. Once we receive and review your video, you should hear back from the staff within a week.

DANCE TEAM

Technical Skills - Single turn, double turn, leaps & jumps
Short dance - under 1 min. 30 secs.

CHEERLEADING SQUAD

Technical Skills— toe touch, 2 advanced jumps [pike, front hurdler, double nine, etc.],
Original Material— 2 chants, a short dance, and stunting
Tumbling— Currently, tumbling is not a requirement, but if you can tumble, please include those skills as well!

NOTE: Please perform whichever advanced jumps and stunt(s) you feel best showcase your ability. You may want to consult with your current cheerleading coach to decide which jumps/stunts are best. Before stunting, please indicate your position (base/flyer/back) and what stunt you are performing. Make sure the camera is positioned so that the main focus of the stunt is on you. We want to see the entire stunt, but we really want to know what you can do! Make sure we can see you clearly!
