2008 Season recap

2008 HAAC Softball ChampionsThe Lady Eagles Softball wrapped up the 2008 season compiling a school record 34 wins while capturing both the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular-season and conference post-season tournament championships highlighted what proved to be one of the most successful softball campaigns in CMU history. The Lady Eagles reached the regional tournament finals. They climbed as high as #22 in the country and stayed in the top 25 for four weeks, finishing the season with a final ranking of 28.

The Eagles were led by a talented group of players, featuring seven All-Conference players. The Eagles’ pitching staff was well represented in post-season awards with McCall Kenney and Chelsea Fuemmeler earning All-Conference honors.  Chelsea was also voted pitcher of the year and earned First Team All-Region honors. The offense was led by Katie Dove, a First Team selection; she was the team leader in average, RBIs, and home runs. Jessica Taylor, Annie Duffner, Surina Howard, and Jessica Henderson were also conference selections and played a huge role in the Eagles’ success.

The Eagles will look to defend their conference title on the newly constructed Cox softball complex.  This on-campus facility will give the Lady Eagles their own field for the first time in the program’s history.

The off-season will bring several talented recruits, including players from Colorado, Arizona, and Kansas, as well as several local Missouri All-State players. Strength and conditioning coach, Nate Breland, will continue to work with the program and should bring even more success in ’09.
