The Artistic Flair of Mike Savage
FAYETTE, Mo. – The works of well-known Kansas City artist Mike Savage
were featured in a seven-week-long exhibition in Maarch and April in the
Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art at Central Methodist College.
Titled "The Artistic Flair of Mike Savage," the exhibition opened March
27 and continued through May 17. A reception for the artist was be held
Sunday, April 1.
Geist labeled the exhibition of Savage’s works as "eclectic" – a variety
of themes from landscape to still life. Nearly 40 of his paintings, all
acrylic on canvas, will be on display. Savage himself says " . . . I
have a profound love of everything around me. From table scenes of
casual everyday objects, to rooms that inspire a warm feeling, to the
endless emotions that a landscape can invoke."
Savage adds that the most important element of his paintings is a strong
composition. "This is achieved with a fairly comprehensive study and
then the eventual drawing on canvas," he adds. "From here, is where my
imagination and style come into play." Savage says that he uses primary
colors – yellow, red and blue – to create an outlined image around a
base drawing, which then "represent a theoretical basis for [each]
work."
