Recent Acquisitions: Art in the Permanent Collection
FAYETTE, Mo. – The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art on the campus of
Central Methodist College will open a new exhibition Aug. 27.
Titled “Recent Acquisitions,” the show will feature art from the
Gallery’s permanent collection, including recently acquired art from the
estates of Dr. Lawrence D. and Loretta Ashby, benefactors of the
Gallery, and artists Louis and Elsie Freund, who were well-known
American Regionalist artists.
The show will include oils, acrylics, lithographs, pen and pencil on
paper, collage and watercolors. Artists represented include Thomas Hart
Benton, Romare Bearden, Aaron Bohrod, G. H. Babcock, Elizabeth Catlett,
David Nordahl and Boonville artist Diane Huneke. Also being shown for
the first time are 16 acrylic paintings by Lawrence Ashby and 12 works
by both Louis and Elsie Freund.
