Art from the Domicile: Art Works from Private Collections
FAYETTE, Mo. – The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art at Central
Methodist College opened a unique exhibition in October 2002 featuring a
wide range of art works from private collections in central Missouri and
elsewhere.
Titled “Art from the Domicile: Works of Art from Private Collections,”
the exhibition opened on Sunday, Oct. 20, and will run through Dec. 12.
Oct.
Also featured during the exhibition was a special exhibition in Gallery
Annex honoring and celebrating the life of music educator Margaret
Thuenemann, who died recently. Thuenemann several years ago gave a gift
of musical compositions to CMC’s Swinney Conservatory of Music that
comprises the many manuscripts from her long career as a music educator
and performer.
“Most of the art in the Domicile exhibition is from persons living in
central Missouri,” gallery curator Joe Geist said. He added that some
pieces were acquired in places as distant as Paris, France, the Middle
East and Central America. “The international flavor of the show forms
its richness.”
Included in the exhibition were works from well-known artists such as
foreign painters Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque and American artists
Fern Coppege and Thomas Moran. Mediums represented in the show include
oils on a variety of surfaces, acrylics, watercolors, and free-standing
sculpture.
