The Splendorous World of Robert Bussabarger
FAYETTE, Mo. – A new exhibition featuring the works of well-known
Columbia artist Robert Bussabarger opened Oct. 24 in The Ashby-Hodge
Gallery of American Art at Central Methodist University.
Titled “The Splendorous World of Robert Bussabarger: Ceramic Sculptor,
Potter and Painter,” the exhibition will run through Dec. 9. More than
50 art works, including oils, acrylics, water colors and pastels, as
well as ceramic sculpture and pottery pieces are being featured.
Bussabarger, professor emeritus of art, University of Missouri-Columbia,
has traveled throughout the world to study and teach art. For the past
three decades, he has lectured widely on art and more recently has
delivered numerous illustrated lectures based on extensive research of
Indian (Asian) art. He retired from full-time teaching at the University
of Missouri in 1991. Since then he has instructed summer courses in the
use of watercolors. He began teaching at the University in 1953.
Other institutions where Bussabarger has held teaching positions in art
since the late 1940s include Stephen F. Austin State College, Ohio State
University and Michigan State University. He has received numerous
grants and fellowships to study and work as an artist in Asia, Latin
America, England and the western United States. These include a
Fulbright-Hay Center Faculty Fellowship to India in 1968-69 and a
Fulbright Research Scholarship to India in 1961-62.
Bussabarger, who is noted in Who’s Who in American Art and Who’s Who in
the Midwest, has been featured in art exhibitions throughout the
Midwest, as well as in a number of other states and in India. His works
are found in numerous private collections and in public and corporate
collections such as the Columbia Public Library, the University of
Missouri, Missouri State Historical Society, Wichita Art Association,
Han Yang University in Ansan, Korea, and at The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of
American Art at Central Methodist University, among many others.
