Penny has been employed as Central since January 2002. She has been married to Dale Shaw for 35 years this November and they have three children: Makai, CMU '02, Kalei & Mauka, CMU '06. Michael D. Pope is the United Methodist Church Liaison for Central
Methodist University. He has been employed with CMU since July 1, 2006.
Michael’s most recent work prior to his employment with CMU was as a
youth director for Wesley UMC in Jefferson City, Missouri. He served in
the pastoral ministry for over 22 years in several churches in Missouri
and Kansas as well as pursuing careers in the fields of career
counseling, sales and marketing.
He attended Central Methodist College from 1975-78. During that time, he
also served a student pastorate at Sturgeon-Riggs UMC. His on-campus
activities included regular attendance at Chapel and participation in
religious life organizations.
Michael and his wife Gwen Auck Pope live in Fayette. Gwen teaches
mathematics at Fayette High School. They have four children, two of whom
graduated from CMU (John Oberlin ’99 and Todd Oberlin ’07). John’s wife,
Lesley Strickland Oberlin also graduated from CMU ’01. Michael and Gwen
also have two daughters, Heather Teufel and Heidi Pope Moala, and two
sons-in-law, Marty Teufel and Ben Moala. Michael and Gwen also have
three grandchildren, including Jordan Teufel and Mackenzie and Mason
Oberlin.
