Scholastic Standards

The grading scale for the Department of Nursing is based on 78% as the minimum percentage for a “C” grade. Students must maintain a grade of “C” in all nursing, allied health and science courses and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale to graduate.

To successfully complete a clinical nursing course, students must obtain a grade of “C” in the didactic portion and obtain a “P” (pass) in the laboratory and/or clinical portion of the course. Failure to pass the lab or clinical portion of the course results in a “D” as the highest grade possible for the course. Should students receive less than a “C” grade in any allied health or science course, that is pre-requisite for program admission, they are allowed to repeat the course one time to be eligible for application to the nursing program. If a student takes a course twice without earning a grade of at least a “C,” that student is not eligible for acceptance into the Nursing Program. Students must complete all science courses prior to their junior year. Should students receive less than a “C” grade in any of the required program courses, they may repeat the course the next time the course is taught if there is space available. Should a student receive less than a “C” grade in any two required program courses (including repeated courses), the second grade of “D” or below will result in the student’s dismissal from the nursing program. For the purpose of continuing in the Nursing program, a withdrawal from an allied health or nursing course is considered the same as achieving less than a grade of C for the course. Students may petition to the Nursing Department Admissions Committee for an exception to be considered for readmission to the nursing program. Students must follow the Nursing Curriculum sequence for the nursing program in the junior and senior year. Students must successfully pass a predictive exit examination prior to graduation. Options for this requirement completion are available in the course syllabus for NU452. Failure to meet this requirement results in dismissal from the program and loss of eligibility to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
