Inscape won First Prize in the distinguished 2006 Sigma Tau Delta Literary Arts Journal Award!
Inscape, CMU’s Magazine of the Arts, is taking yearly submissions
of poetry, prose (fiction and non-fiction), photographs, and artwork for
each issue, published annually in the spring. In its 30+ years, Inscape
has provided a creative venue for the poetry, prose, and artwork of
students, faculty, and staff.
Awards are given in the following categories:
- Kilgore Trout Award for Fiction
- Thomas F. Dillingham Award for Non-fiction Prose
- Gordon Hadfield Award for Poetry
- William L. Spencer Memorial Award for Foreign-Language Poetry
- Byrd Cooper Kirby Award (for the artwork selected for the Spring 2008
front cover)
- Elizabeth Stapleton Award in Art Education (for photography and other
non-writing creative arts media)
Want to see previous issues of Inscape? Please visit the Department of
English on the 4th floor of Cupples Hall.
Poetry and prose submissions:
- Download the
submission form. Fill in the shaded boxes.
- All submitted poetry, prose, and drama must be typed.
- Submit material pseudonymously: create a pen name (a pseudonym) and
have only that name, appear on the printed copies of the submitted work.
Pseudonyms enhance objective reviews.
- Provide a printed copy. NOTE: If submitting a poetry
translation, also submit a copy of that original published poem. What is
a "poetry translation"? For the purposes of this publication, we accept
as "poetry translation" any original translation—by a CMU student, staff
member, or faculty member--of a poem that was (a) published in a
language other than English and (b) published other than in Inscape. The
original poet and the translator cannot be the same person.
- Provide a disk-based (Windows-compatible) copy of material in MS
Word format. If we accept the work, the Inscape staff will not have to
retype it.
- Send the completed submission form and material to Dr. Jack Healy no
later than 2 p.m. Monday, 3 March 2008 in one of two ways:
- E-MAIL: Send this form (completed electronically) and an
electronic, MS Word-compatible copy of submissions as e-mail
attachments to
jhealy@centralmethodist.edu
OR
- CD: Deliver an electronic copy of the submission form on a
Windows-compatible CD containing submitted materials to Dr. Healy, 427
Cupples.
Photography and artwork submissions:
- Download the
submission form. Fill in the shaded boxes.
- If possible, submit all photography and artwork anonymously; that
is, the artist’s name should not appear on the photographs or artwork.
-
If possible, submit photography electronically on a
Windows-compatible CD.
- If submitting a digital photograph, then save the file in the
highest possible resolution at the size of 5x7 (for vertical images)
or 7x5 (horizontal). If we have to resize the image, then we will
not lose resolution.
- If submitting a photographic slide, then we will attempt to scan
such images, but we cannot promise high-quality reproductions.
- If submitting a print photograph, then we will scan such images, so
make sure the print is the desired quality.
Missed the deadline? We will accept submissions until 2 p.m. on Mon., 17
March 2008; material submitted after 3 March, though, will not be
considered for the Arts Competitions.
