Major Requirements
Requirements for English Minor (Bachelor of Arts) with
Certification to Teach Middle School Language Arts: 21 hours of
English, including:
- EN 222 Character and Literature
- Nine (9) hours chosen from the following with at least three (3) hours
American and at least three (3) hours British literature:

- EN 323 Literature of the U.S.: Colonial America to Whitman
- EN 324 Literature of the U.S.: Realism to 1945
- EN 329 Contemporary American Literature
(British literature)
- EN 331 English Literature: Beginnings to 1660
- EN 340 British Literature from 1660-1830
- EN 342 British Literature from 1830 to 1900
- EN 347 British Literature After 1900
- Six (6) hours chosen from the following or from the courses remaining
above:
- EN 212 Introduction to Cinema
- EN 217 Principles and Practice of Journalism
- EN 227 Literature and the Life of Faith
- EN 228 Literature and the Family
- EN 229 Travel Literature
- EN 230 Regional Literature
- EN 231 Literature and Medicine
- EN 331 British Literature: Beginnings to 1660
- EN 335 Shakespeare
- EN 355 Topics in Poetry
- EN 101 and EN 305 must still be taken as part of general requirements.
- Students seeking certification must also complete the required
professional education classes.
