Major Requirements
Major, B.A. Degree and B.S. Degree: 32 semester hours in
biology, BI225 and BI325 are required. In addition to the 32 hours in
biology, for the B.A. Degree, an additional, 13 hours of related work,
selected from chemistry, physics, mathematics or computer science, are
required. For the B.S. Degree, 18 hours of additional courses must be
selected from the same list. All graduates must complete the oral and
written assessment in BI 325.
Marine Biology Major, B.A. Degree and B.S. Degree: 32 semester
hours including a minimum of 20 hours in Marine Biology that must be
taken at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs,
Mississippi. These courses are offered only during the summer sessions
in Ocean Springs. In addition, Biology 101 and 102 and any 4 hours of
Biology to total 12 hours are required. In addition, for the B.A.
Degree, 13 hours of related work, selected from mathematics, chemistry,
physics, computer science or Geology 101 are required. For the B.S.
Degree, 18 hours of related work, selected from the same list are
required. All graduates must complete the oral and written assessment in
BI 325.

Biology Endorsement Unified Science: B.A. Degree and B.S. Degree.
This degree will allow for secondary teaching in Unified Science with a
Biology Endorsement. A minimum of 87 semester hours in principal and
education courses. Fifty-nine semester hours of science including twenty
hours of biology in addition to the courses listed below. See biology
advisor for specific selection of courses. Unified Science core courses
must include Biology 101-102 (8 hrs.), Biology 301 or Environmental
Science 201 (environmental science, 4 hrs.); Chemistry 111, 114 (8
hrs.); Physics 111, 112 or 205, 206 ( 8 hrs.); Earth Science (Geology
101 or 102 and Physics 301, 8 hrs.); and History and Philosophy of
Science - SC 382 ( 3 hrs). Related work of 28 hours of professional
education courses is required.
