Clinical Experiences
Each student will complete a minimum of 900 hrs of clinical Athletic
Training experience. Level I observation hours will not count toward the clinical hours
required for graduation.
| Level II Athletic Training Student |
A. This level is for the athletic training student who
has some experience in athletic training.
B. The criteria for entering this level are the successful
completion of level I and admittance into the professional phase
of the ATEP.
C. The criteria for completion of Level II is:
Level II - Second year- Falls under course AT 101, AT 102
( FALL/SPRING)
Two 8-week university sports rotation per semester.
- Must complete rotation with intercollegiate sport teams.
(i.e.) Football, Track and Field, Volleyball, etc.
- Assigned morning treatment rotations. (minimum 4 hours/week)
- Will, under direct supervision, assist Certified Athletic
Trainers with practices and events during scheduled hours.
- Completion of Level II will allow student to
travel in and outside of Conference events. The
absence of an ATC in any situation limits the
role of an ATS to that of a first responder.
Hours documented as a first responder will be
counted in a separate category on a log sheet.
These hours are voluntary and will not be
counted as part of your clinical hours.
- Requirements for AT 101 – 140- 200 clinical
hours. Must complete Level II, section
1proficiencies located in the CMU Athletic
Training Education Program Policies and
Procedures Manual.
- Requirements for AT 102 – Must complete
Level II, section 2 proficiencies located in the
CMU Athletic Training Education Program Policies
and Procedures Manual.
- Pass CD ROM exams (one each semester).
- Complete an 8 week PBL Group case study (one each semester)

| Level III Athletic Training Student |
A. This level is for the upper level athletic training
students who are near completion of all their on-campus clinical
rotations.
B. The criteria for entering this level is the successful
completion of all level I and II criteria.
C. The criteria to complete a level III status is:
Level III - Third year- Falls under course AT 201, AT 202 ( FALL/
SPRING)
Two - 8 week college sports rotation per semester
- Must complete rotation with intercollegiate sport teams. Must
include football plus 2 team experiences dealing with lower
extremity injuries and two team experiences dealing with upper
extremity injuries (i.e.) M&W Basketball, M&W Soccer, Softball,
Baseball.
- Assigned morning treatment rotation.
(minimum 4 hours/week)
- Will assist Head/Assistant Athletic Trainer with practices
and events during scheduled hours..
- Completion of Level II will allow student to
travel in and outside of Conference events. The

- Requirements for AT 202 – 280-400 clinical
hours. Must complete Level III, section 2
proficiencies located in the CMU Athletic
Training Education Program Policies and
Procedures Manual.
- Pass CD ROM (one each semester).

| Level IV Athletic Training Student |
A. This level is for the ATS who are in their final
preparation of undergraduate course work and are preparing
themselves for their final two semesters.
B. The criteria for entering this level is the successful completion of
levels I, II, and III
C. The criteria to complete a Level IV status is:
Level IV - Fourth year-
Falls under course AT 301,AT 302 (FALL/SPRING)
High School rotation ( 106-150 clinical hours), Rehabilitation (
70 clinical hours), and general medical (15 clinical hours)
rotations.
- Requirements for AT 301 - Must complete Level IV, section 1
proficiencies located in the CMU Athletic Training Education
Program Policies and Procedures Manual. High school rotation.
- Requirements for AT 302 – Must complete
Level IV, section 2 proficiencies located in the
CMU Athletic Training Education Program Policies
and Procedures Manual . Rehab and general
medical rotations.
- Requirements for AT 368 – 15 hours observing
at a general medical setting.
- Pass CD ROM tests (fall semester).
- Complete ACES Preparatory Workshop (spring
semester)

| Retention Policy-Program Levels II, III, IV. |
| Each student will be evaluated at the end of each semester based on a
point system. The student must receive a 2.5 on a scale of 4. If
satisfactory progress is being made with each program level, the student
will be allowed to move on to the next semester or level. Students who
fail to make such progress will be placed on probation for one semester.
If the deficiencies are not remedied than the student will be dropped
from the program. |
| Clinical: |
| The clinical instructors will assess student's performance each
semester. If the student fails to progress with the requirements of
his/her level, then a one semester, probation may be given. If not
satisfied in the allotted time, then the student may be dismissed from
the program. |
