The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art on the campus of Central Methodist College will open a new exhibition Aug. 27.
Titled "Recent Acquisitions," the show will feature art from the Gallery's permanent collection, including recently acquired art from the estates of Dr. Lawrence D. and Loretta Ashby, benefactors of the Gallery, and artists Louis and Elsie Freund, who were well-known American Regionalist artists.
The show will include oils, acrylics, lithographs, pen and pencil on paper, collage and watercolors. Artists represented include Thomas Hart Benton, Romare Bearden, Aaron Bohrod, G. H. Babcock, Elizabeth Catlett, David Nordahl and Boonville artist Diane Huneke. Also being shown for the first time are 16 acrylic paintings by Lawrence Ashby and 12 works by both Louis and Elsie Freund.
