Graduation - CLAS

The crowning achievement to an academic career is, for most students, Commencement. We encourage all students eligible to do so to take part in a Commencement ceremony.

Students wishing to graduate must complete the CLAS Graduation Application. The application must be submitted by October 1 for December 2011 or March 1 for May 2012.

Generally, students need to earn at least 124 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 to graduate. Some programs have additional requirements, so students should check with their advisors and with division chairs.

Academic Regalia and Commencement

Arrangements for academic regalia are made through each campus office. Students should attend graduation on the campus at which they are enrolled, if possible.

Undergraduate graduation honors

Each year, some members of the graduating class are recognized for outstanding scholarship. Students whose cumulative grade point average (GPA) is 3.95 (or above) graduate summa cum laude. Students whose GPA is 3.8 (or above) graduate magna cum laude. Students whose GPA is 3.7 (or above) graduate cum laude. Honors students must have earned at least 60 semester hours from Central Methodist University. Graduation with Honors is calculated using all grades earned through the term prior to Commencement, including all transferred hours. These honors are recorded on the diplomas. Students graduating with honors are given appropriately colored cords to wear in the Commencement Ceremony. Students must earn a minimum of 60 semester hours from Central Methodist University to be eligible for honors.
