CMU To Offer Vocal And Piano Invitational

October 11 event for high school students

The Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University is offering a free day of music development for high school students on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to school group vocalists and/or pianists, individual high school students are also invited to participate, according to Dr. Dori Waggoner, Dean of the Conservatory. The event includes a complimentary lunch.

Students will have a chance to learn about developing strong technique, movement and vocalization, preparing for college auditions and festivals, and developing basic diction skills.

In addition, they can participate in voice and piano master classes, have the chance to discuss music programs with current college students, and have the opportunity to sing with CMU choral ensembles.

The coaches for the day will include Dr. Laura Wiebe, Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, Dr. Barb Berwin, Dr. Melissa Simons, and Dr. Claude Westfall, all professors in the CMU music department.

Please register at  by Oct. 1 to participate. Students will meet at the Swinney Conservatory (the Con) at 9 a.m. on Oct. 11.
