Director of Digital Learning

This position provides leadership and support for all aspects related to the coordination, implementation, and assessment of the University’s mobile initiative known as “Digital U”.  This includes leading innovation in the area of technology-enhanced pedagogy in teaching and learning and immersive technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The Director works to engage the University community in creating institutional culture and capacity for innovative design with emerging technologies.  The Director reports to the Vice-President for Technology and Planning.

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for “Digital U” related activities and facilitate the use and assessment of existing and emerging technology by faculty, staff, and students. (55%)
  • Creates and/or maintains appropriate documentation related to process and procedure. (15%)
  • Keep track of equipment, licenses, and update related software as needed. (15%)
  • Work with administration to develop budget and policy. (10%)
  • Provides administrative support for the Office of Technology Services. (5%)


Provide direction and supervision for one full-time assistant and a minimum of 2-4 students


Minimum Bachelor’s degree

  1. Fluency with Microsoft Office.
  2. Proficiency with IOS devices.
  3. Competencies in learning technologies.
  4. Highly motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  5. Strong problem solving and team building skills.
  6. Demonstrated evidence in performing duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision while also being able to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.


Master’s degree.

2-4 years of experience in higher education or related setting.

Experience with JAMF mobile device management platform.


Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and talk and hear. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required include close vision.


Some evening and weekend work required. Limited travel (typically regional) required.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Provides leadership and support for the Digital U initiative by identifying, evaluating, and promoting effective digital learning technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
  2. Communicates with faculty, staff, students, and parents for the purpose of providing academic/administrative support, enhancing Digital U awareness and leading the Digital U implementation.
  3. Directs the development and interpretation of Digital U policy and procedures needed to effectively and efficiently meet Digital U goals.
  4. Identify, plan, and facilitate meetings and professional development activities which foster collaboration and adoption of effective practices for digital learning.
  5. Engage the University community to expand knowledge and accelerate experimentation with mobile augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology.
  6. Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. reports, letters, procedures, presentations, manuals, assessments, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  7. Develops and manages Digital U budgets to ensure that software, hardware and personnel are available to meet Digital U goals and objectives.
  8. Coordinates program assessments to ensure that technology standards for faculty, staff, and students meet Digital U goals and guidelines.
  9. Supervises, manages the day-to-day tasks, and provides direction to assigned employees (e.g.  hiring, evaluation, etc.) in order to achieve and maintain program consistency.
  10. Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform Digital U functions and/or representing the University.
