Assistant Professor of Accounting & Business

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Teach a range of upper and lower level courses in accounting and business.  Carry an education load to equal an average of 24 load hours per academic year.  This is not an economics or straight finance position.

The opening begins the Spring 2018 semester.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach a range of upper and lower level courses in accounting and business.  Exact class assignments will depend upon the needs of the division.

Evaluate student performance and discuss those evaluations with students (Evaluation of student performance includes evaluation of papers, projects, and journals, and returning these to students in timely fashion.)

Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time

Develop a course syllabus and lectures, in alignment with the Mission of the University and the division of Accounting, Business and Economics.


Be available to meet with students, as needed, before or after class time or at other scheduled times throughout the week.

Advise students about academic standards, policies and programs available to facilitate their success

Regularly check CMU email for timely correspondence with Dean, Department/Division Chair, students and other members of the CMU community.

Attend departmental (voting) and institutional faculty (non-voting) meetings.

Actively participate in both course and divisional assessment. 

Serve on departmental/university committees as assigned.

Follow the expectations outlined in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a minimum of a Master’s degree in Accounting or an MBA with 18 hours of graduate level accounting courses.  An appropriate Doctoral degree or accounting certification and teaching experience is preferred.  This is not an economics or straight finance position.

 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit or stand in front of a classroom.  Must be able to articulate clearly and loudly for each class.

Expertise that complements and expands the needs and goals of the department.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and the instructional use of technology to teach traditional, hybrid or on-line courses, as needed.
